Updated 8th August 2024 from my home in Scotland.

Wow, it’s been a minute since my last update. So what’s happening?

We’ve had a rare period of sunshine with some nice temperatures of upwards of 20 degrees celsius which is great as we adopted a 7 month old puppy from Bosnia. There’s been plenty of time in the garden. It’s been 2 years since our elderly companion Tara passed away and it felt like the right time to welcome a new family member. I had forgotten how hard it was to raise a puppy, especially one that’s had an unstable start to life, but we’re getting there and it’s been a great reminder to slow down and take things day by day.

I set out a few professional and personal goals this year which I won’t bore you with them all. However, a few are worth mentioning:

  • Preparing for and passing the AWS Security Specialty Certification - For the last decade I’ve been increasingly drawn to the world of security and with the past 6 years working on and with AWS, cloud security has been a natural fit. I enjoyed getting hands on and studying, not only in preparation for the exam, but also for real world learning. Huge thanks to Adrian Cantrill for creating great courses with practical knowledge

  • I’m leaving AWS. More on this another day where I might write a post on the reasons and next steps. I’m not currently sure when I’ll finish up, but there’s definitely mixed emotions of uncertainty of leaving a role I’m comfortable in with stable pay and a great team, but excitement at what might come next.
